Review of the biology and host-plants of Ethon fissiceps (Kirby)
and other Ethon species
(Coleoptera: Buprestidae)

Abstract - A new larval host-plant, Dillwynia retorta (Wendl.) Druce (Fabaceae) and other biological observations, are recorded for the Australian buprestid beetle, Ethon fissiceps (Kirby). Various features of the galls produced by this species are compared with those of the related, and better known species, E. affine Laporte & Gory. A review of the biology and host-plants of Ethon is also provided. The larval and adult host-plants of E. fissiceps are also compared with those of other Ethon species. The recent finding of E. fissiceps in galls of D. retorta maintains the trend towards monophagy upon Fabaceae exhibited by other species.
