Abstract - Analysis of the frequency, population size and altitudinal distribution of the family Carabidae (Col.) in the Orocantabrian phytogeographic province (Spain) - This report is the third of a series on the study on the ground beetles in the Cantabrian mountain range phytogeographic region, and is limited to the family Carabidae (sensu Jeanne & Zaballos, 1986). Twenty-four species and subspecies of this family are considered, the report being based on two years of field work in this band of territory in the North-West of the Iberian Peninsula. A grouping into six categories on the basis of the frequency is established, and an analysis of the changes in the species frequency during the study period is undertaken. Finally, an analysis is carried out on the altitudinal distribution of the collected taxa, as a function of their presence and abundance, together with their relationship to the plant cover of the various biological and climatological height zones.
