from Argentina

PEDRO GNASPINI

Abstract - Ptomaphagus picunche n. sp. is described from caves from the Neuquén Province, Argentina. This is the first southern South American species of the tribe Ptomaphagini, and does not belong to the group of described South American Ptomaphagus. Although it does not show striking troglomorphic features, it is a possible troglobite because it inhabits caves in a desertic region, and might be restricted to the subterranean environment.
