Abstract - Coleoptera Melolonthidae associated with the flowers of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. (Malvaceae) in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico - A qualitative and quantitative study of the Melolonthinae and Rutelinae scarab beetles that visit the flowers of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis at one garden located in the transition of cloud montane forest to tropical deciduous forest near Xalapa city is presented. Temporal distribution and habits of 15 species of Macrodactylus, Hoplia, Phyllophaga, Epectinaspis, Strigoderma, Anomala and Callistethus during two years of diurnal and nocturnal observations and systematic collection are noted. Epectinaspis mexicana is the dominant species in all samples from June to September. It is concluded that flowers of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis are an important refuge, food source and mating site mainly for Epectinaspis mexicana, Macrodactylus lineatus and Strigoderma vestita.
