Abstract - Calathus silvanus n. sp.: probably the last unknown species of the genus living on Gomera (Canary Islands) (Coleoptera, Carabidae) - Calathus silvnus n. sp., from Gomera (Canary Islands), is described: it is closely related to C. marcellae Colas, 1943, but shiny, with deep elytral striae, not very convex elytral intervals, almost flat prosternal process; the female with the apical segment of styluses short and broad; the male with meso-tibial (and meta-tibial) brush and penis with short, large apex and steps on both sides, similar to that of C. rectus Wollaston, 1862 from Tenerife and, less, to that of C. laureticola Wollaston, 1865 from Gomera. C. marcellae Colas has sericeous elytra, finer elytral striae with flat intervals, convex prosternal process; the female with apical segment of styluses long and narrow; the male without meso-tibial brush (on the contrary present, according to Colas, 1943), and penis with narrow, rounded apex and without steps.
