Abstract - A monographic study on Canadian and Alaskan species of the genus Hemerobius is presented. Thirteen species are reported from Canada and Alaska, of which eleven were formerly listed by Carpenter (1940) from the Nearctic region, one of them, H. pinidumus Fitch (formerly considered to be a form of H. conjunctus Fitch) being reinsated here as full species. Two subgenera, Hemerobius Linnaeus and Brauerobius Krüger, are recognized, following Aspöck et al. (1980). The species of the subgenus Hemerobius are here newly divided into seven species-groups to reflect better their relationships. All species are redescribed, the wings photographed, the male genital structures illustrated, and the biology (so far as known) and geographic distribution of each species discussed. Keys to subgenera and species are provided. Wing venation terminology is revised.
