Abstract - Psammoporus latipunctus (Gredler), misinterpreted species of the Italian fauna (Coleoptera Scarabaeoidea: Aegialiidae) - Through the study of the male genitalia armature of the internal sac, female genital plate and styli, as well as external characters, the Psammoporus Thomson specimens from all the currently known Italian localities, up to now quoted as Psammoporus sabuleti (Panzer, 1797), must actually be assigned to Psammoporus latipunctus (Gredler, 1866). This taxon, of which the Author could examine the type, is hereby raised to specific rank, though usually regarded as a simple synonym or form of P. sabuleti. On the basis of currently available data P. latipunctus results to be widespread along the Italian side of the Alps, while P. sabuleti appears to range over central and northern Europe without reaching Italy. P. latipunctus is redescribed and differentiated from P. sabuleti. For both species verified distributional data and original drawings of the female genital plate, male genitalia and armature of the internal sac are given.
