with descriptions of two new species from Argentina

Abstract - Some Neotropical species of the genus Megacyllene sensu stricto are studied. Megacyllene acuta (Germar, 1821), M. bonplandi Gounelle, 1911 (redescription, new records and lectotype designation), M. falsa (Chevrolat, 1862) (new records), M. magna new species (Argentina), M. murina (Burmeister, 1879), M. neblinosa Di Iorio, 1995 (new records), M. nebulosa (Laporte & Gory, 1836) (revaluation) [= M. spinifera (Newman, 1840)], M. rufipes (Laporte & Gory, 1836) (new records), M. rufofemorata new species (Argentina); M. angulata (Fabricius, 1775) (redescription) [= M. boliviana Chevrolat, 1862, new synonymy = M. chiliensis (Laporte & Gory, 1836), new synonymy], M. multiguttata (Burmeister, 1865) (= M. megaspilota Martins, 1974, new synonymy) (new record for Bolivia). Type specimens at the British Museum of Natural History are illustrated for the first time: Cyllene exsanguis Chevrolat, 1862 (= Megacyllene acuta); Cyllene anacantha Chevrolat, 1862; Cyllene congener Laporte & Gory, 1836; Cyllene designata Chevrolat, 1862; Cyllene caracasensis Chevrolat, 1861 (= Megacyllene angulata); Cyllene elongata Chevrolat, 1861 [= Megacyllene proxima (Laporte & Gory, 1836)]; Cyllene boliviana Chevrolat, 1862 (= Megacyllene angulata); Clytus chiliensis Laporte & Gory, 1836 (= Megacyllene angulata).
