Abstract - A new Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) Reitter, 1914 from Mount Terminillo (Latium) (Coleoptera, Curculionoidea) - A new species of the subgenus Lixorrhynchus of Otiorhynchus is described from the top of Mount Terminillo (Italy, Latium, Rieti): it is the 44th taxon of the subgenus known so far from Corsica and Italy. The new species can be morphologically compared just with the two geographically closest species: O. (L.) sabinus Magrini, Meoli & Abbazzi, 2005 from Moggio (Contigliano, Rieti) and O. (L.) aquilanus (Osella, 1976) from Sella di Corno (L’Aquila). It is easily distinguished from the former for its vestigial eyes (instead of being anophthalmous), the metafemora and metatibiae much shorter, and larger at base, the rostrum on dorsum widely concave instead of convex, the shorter elytral pubescence, the slenderer pronotum, much less globe-shaped and with closer fossulae. From the latter for the head, rostrum and antennae much longer, smaller eyes, narrower scrobes, less globe-shaped and slenderer pronotum [PMW/PL ratio = 0.98, instead of 1.03], shorter [EL/EW ratio = 1.85, instead of 1.90]and pointed at tip elytra, the same widest at middle (before middle in aquilanus). More marked the differences from the geographically farther species. Updated measurements for the holotype of O. (L.) sabinus are also reported.

Abstract - A new Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) Reitter, 1914 from Baronia, central-eastern Sardinia (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) - Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) gigantium n. sp., from hills south of Mount Albo (Baronia, CE Sardinia) is herein described. For some characteristics, the new species is close to O. (L.) consortii Magrini, Abbazzi & Cirocchi, 2001, endemic to Sardinia in the area of Lula, from which however is well distinguished by its vestigial eyes, the shorter pronotum, narrower at base and with sparser punctation, the less prominent pterygia, the dorsal carinae of the rostrum converging posteriorly rather than parallel, the larger and sharper spines of femora, the more massive and stout aedeagus in lateral view, the spermatheca with thinner, less curved cornus, and, above all, the basal armor of the internal sac of the aedeagus clearly different in ventral view. The updated sizes, on the basis of new records, of O. (L.) consortii are also given.

Abstract - A new Torneuma Wollaston, 1860 from Sicily (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Cryptorhynchinae) - A new Sicilian weevil is here described and illustrated: Torneuma angelae n. sp., collected on Mount Pellegrino (Palermo) syntopic with Torneuma deplanatum deplanatum (Hampe, 1864). The new species, very small, is easily distinguished from the other known congeneric taxa by the external characteristics, and mainly by the singular structure of the basal armor of the internal sac of the aedeagus, with four pigmented sclerites laterally: two anterior subspherical and two posterior reniform.

Abstract - Systematic revision of genus Cotaster Motschulsky: new synonymies and descriptions of two new species (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) - The Palaearctic weevil genus Cotaster Motschulsky, 1851 is revised for the first time. Four species are considered valid: two previously described, C. uncipes (Boheman, 1838) and C. cuneipennis (Aubé, 1850), and two new to Science, C. speziai n. sp. (north-eastern Italy, Austria, southern Germany) and C. kostali n. sp. (southern Italy). Through the study of the types, it is established that C. cuneipennis sensu auctorum is actually C. uncipes (Boheman, 1838), and C. uncipes sensu auctorum is actually C. cuneipennis (Aubé, 1850). The two following synonymies are proposed: C. cuneipennis (Aubé, 1850) (= Styphlus pilosus Motschulsky, 1851, n. syn. = C. orientalis Solari, 1941, n. syn.). The taxon described as C. uncipes f. carniolicus Voss, 1955 is actually of infrasubspecific rank, and thus the respective name is unavailable. Through the original description, Caenocotaster Voss, 1971, described as subgenus of Cotaster based on a single species from South Africa, is raised to genus rank, as follows: Caenocotaster Voss, 1971, stat. nov., and Caenocotaster remotus Voss, 1971, comb. nov. On the basis of the pattern of the punctures and vestiture of the elytral interstriae, and the shape of the antennal scape, C. speziai is more closely related to C. cuneipennis, whereas C. kostali is more similar to C. uncipes. These relationships were further supported by the study of the mt COI gene, which demonstrated a genetic divergence of 4.0-4.3% between C. cuneipennis and C. speziai, 11.9-12.2% between C. uncipes and C. cuneipennis, and 11.4% between C. uncipes e C. speziai. For each species, detailed notes on type specimens, diagnosis, description, synonymies, comparative notes, distribution, photographs and drawings of the habitus and useful taxonomical characters are provided, together with two keys to species (one in English).

Abstract - A new species of Raymondionymus Wollaston, 1873 from Lepini Mountains(Latium) (Coleoptera, Curculionoidea, Raymondionymidae) - In this note the Author describes Raymondionymus paladinii n. sp. from Mount Semprevisa (Lazio, Lepini Mountains, Rome), the largest species of the genus occurring in Italy, characterized by the presence on the anterior part of pronotum of a large cordiform depression, very deep anteriorly and rising to the disc surface in the posterior triangular portion. Diagnostic characters are given for the related species Raymondionymus eximius Meregalli & Osella, 2006 from Mount Viglio (Abruzzi, L'Aquila / Latium, Frosinone) and Raymondionymus pulcherrimus Magrini, Bastianini & Abbazzi, 2008 from the L’Arnale Cave, No. 87 La/Fr, Aurunci Mountains (Coreno Ausonio, Frosinone).

Abstract - Description of Archarius ziliolii, new species from Italy and Switzerland related to A. crux (Fabricius) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) - Archarius ziliolii n. sp. is described from northern and central Italy and southern Switzerland. This species is closely related to A. crux (Fabricius, 1777) (formerly Curculio), from which it differs by the sparser white scales of the dorsal vestiture, which form a thinner and shorter vitta at the sides of the pronotum and a thinner and shorter transverse band at the middle of elytra; moreover, in the male of A. ziliolii the uncus of fore tibiae is stouter and angularly curved, whereas the aedeagus is parallel-sided instead of being enlarged from the base to the apical third and further abruptly constricted. In addition, the lectotypes of Curculio crux Fabricius, 1777 and Balaninus rhaeticus Fuchs, 1862 are designated, and the synonymies of the latter taxon and Balaninus crucifer Fuchs, 1862 with A. crux (Fabricius) are confirmed.

On the systematic position of some overlooked weevil taxa described by Schrank in 1798 and by Gravenhorst in 1807 (Coleoptera, Curculionidae)

Abstract - In accordance with the ICZN (1999), several actions are taken to preserve nomenclatural stability of taxa currently belonging to the Curculionidae. Following the provisions of ICZN Article 23.9.1 Pseudostyphlus pillumus (Gyllenhal, 1835) (formerly Erirhinus) is made a nomen protectum and Rhynchaenus pilumnus Gravenhorst, 1807 is made a nomen oblitum; Cleopomiarus graminis (Gyllenhal, 1813) (formerly Rhynchaenus) is made a nomen protectum and Rhynchaenus cinerascens Gravenhorst, 1807 is made a nomen oblitum. Abstract - Neumatora annamariae n. sp. from the Island of Lampedusa (Pelagie Islands, Sicily) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Cossoninae) - In this note the Authors describe and illustrate Neumatora annamariae, new species from the Island of Lampedusa. The new species is similar to N. depressa Normand, 1920 from Tunisia, from which it can be easily recognized for the peculiar morphological characters presented in two tables. The introduction highlights the controversial phases of the systematic positioning of the genus Neumatora, alternatively attributed to the Cryptorhynchinae (Torneumatini) or the Cossoninae. An updated list of the known Neumatora species and a map showing their distributions are also given.

Abstract - Coleopterological researches in Tenuta di San Rossore (Pisa): Curculionoidea  (Insecta, Coleoptera) - During numerous excursions into Tenuta di San Rossore, belonging to the Migliarino - San Rossore - Massaciuccoli Natural Park (Pisa, Tuscany, Italy), between years 2004-2009, 155 species of Curculionoidea were collected, corresponding to the 6.5% of the whole Italian fauna. Among them, Pseudaplemonus chevrolati (Gyllenhal, 1833) is newly reported for Italy, whereas Exapion ulicis ulicis (Forster, 1771) and Barypeites maritimus (Gyllenhal, 1834) are new to the fauna of Tuscany. Distribution, host plants, habitat and collection data for each species are given.

Abstract - During late August 1992, field observations were undertaken on the feeding and general behaviour of the native weevil Pelororrhinus interstitialis Lea (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Banksia robur heathland near Hastings Point, north-eastern New South Wales. The species is one of the first flower inhabiting Coleoptera to emerge after winter and congregates and feeds on the flowers of Leptospermum semibaccatum Cheel (Myrtaceae) and does not appear to feed on flowers of co-blooming plant species. The females are usually larger and less common than the males. The beetles appear to have a short adult life span and were not present after the cessation of flowering of the host plant during early to mid-September 1992, even though other Leptospermum species were beginning to flower at that time.

Abstract - Seven new species of Sibinia from southern Africa are described: Sibinia youngai, S. agilis, S. rubella, S. tenuilineata, S. oberprieleri, S. singularis, S. polysignata. All of them were collected in the Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa, and one (S. tenuilineata) also in Namibia. Moreover, remarks on the taxonomy of four species (S. pretiosa Caldara, S. clarki Caldara, S. spiculirostris Caldara and S. kalaharica Caldara), previously described from only one sex, are given on the basis of additional specimens. Finally, S. spiculirostris Caldara and S. modesta Desbrochers are reported from southern Africa for the first time.

Abstract - Revision of the Sibinia species of the Ethiopian region (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) - The revision of the Ethiopian weevils of the genus Sibinia Germar is performed. The 53 recognized species, 41 of which described as new, are placed in eight groups belonging to the nominotypical subgenus: 5 taxa remain incertae sedis. Every species is discussed as follows: extensive description with the range of variability, short diagnosis in English, comparison with closely related species, geographic distribution, available biological data, the illustration of essential morphological characters. Moreover, a key to species in Italian and English is given. Species are mostly distributed in southern Africa and appear to have as hosts plants of the family Aizoacecae. On the ground of morphological and biological data, some hypothetical phylogenetic relationships among Ethiopian groups, and between them and Palaearctic ones, are proposed.

(Col., Curculionidae, Brachyderinae) - The genus Dochorhynchus Desbrochers, 1897 is a synonym of Tropiphorus Schoenherr, 1842: its type species, Dochorynchus caudulatus Desbrochers, 1897, is a synonym of Tropiphorus styriacus (Bedel, 1883) after the type specimens. This genus must be deleted from the Iberian list of Brachyderinae. Moreover, a new genus, Chionostagon, is erected for Sciaphilomorphus albosquamulatus (Reitter, 1907), comb. nov. A key to the known Iberian genera of the tribe Brachyderini is given.
