Abstract - Biology of Xylocopa (Xylocopa) violacea (Linnaeus, 1758) (Hymenoptera: Apidae): quantitative analysis of carbohydrates contained by the pollen paste - To determine the quantitative pattern of carbohydrates contained by the pollen paste of Xylocopa violacea (L.) (Hymenoptera: Apidae) in southern Italy is the aim of this note. The identified carbohydrates are as follows (fresh weight %): monosaccharides (fructose 23.70%; glucose 20.45%); disaccharides (saccharose 0.74%); tetrasaccharides (stachiose = lupeose 1.50%).
